UROP Conference Day – Instructions to Presenters

All presentations, both oral and poster, should follow the general format of:
1. Introduction or Background;
2. Aims;
3. Methods;
4. Results (if any);
5. Conclusions or Future Directions.

Instructions for preparing presentations are as follows:

Oral Presentations

Speakers have been grouped by general subject areas according to our knowledge of what you are working on - some will not be an exact fit but it will flow better if we have some themes. Please note the following instructions:

1. The time allowed for presentations is a total of 10 minutes each: 5 min for talking and 5 min for questions.

2. Slides should be limited to 5 only in addition to a title slide.

3. Prepare your presentation using PowerPoint.  We request that your slides be e-mailed to us at least two days in advance so it can be loaded up for presentation.

4. Remember most of your audience will have only a general understanding of the area, so don't get too bogged down in detail.

5. If your work is in preparation, it is fine to talk about what you are aiming to achieve.

6. Ask your supervisors for assistance in preparation and have a run-through with them before the day.

Posters

If you indicated that you prefer a poster presentation, yours will be presented during the poster discussion session. Five minutes will be allowed for you to give a summary standing in front of your poster. Please note the following instructions for preparing posters:

1. The maximum area allowed for your poster is 1.5 metre horizontally X 1 metre vertically.

2. It is perfectly acceptable to print each section of the poster on A4 size pages and distribute them in order on the poster boards.

3. Font size of text on the poster should be no less than 24 point.

4. Velcro dots will be provided on the day to fix to the backs of the posters for mounting on the felt/carpet poster display boards.
